My second great grandmother was Apolonia ALBRECHT. She was born 9 Feb 1859 in Austria. About 1881 she married Enos KAVCIC in Austria. Around 1893, she immigrated to the United States. The family settled in Darlington township, Beaver county, Pennsylvania (just across the Ohio border to East Palestine, Columbiana county, Ohio).
Enos died on 19 Oct 1908. In the 1910 US census, Apolonia has been married for one year to a Frank COUCHENE, 25 years younger than her. I believe that Frank is somehow related to Enos and that the KAVCIC name was Americanized to COUCHE/COUCHIE/COUCHEE depending on who used it. Or the entire family took Frank's surname since Enos is never recorded with the COUCHIE name. Frank is only with the family in the 1910 census.
Apolonia died 3 Sep 1945 at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Cleveland, Cuyahoga county, Ohio. She was living there for at least 15 years because she is enumerated there in the 1930 census.
On her death certificate, Apolonia's parents are Herman Brechdt, born Austria and Mary Brechedt, born Austria. Records of her children give her maiden name as ALBRECHT and ALGBRETH.
That's all I have on this surname. I need to find out where in Austria the family was from and try to find out more about them.
Any cousins that would like to collaborate on this line are encouraged to email me at genwishlist@gmail.com.
This is interesting. My Albrecht/Albright ancestors came from Germany and immigrated to Minnesota. Good luck with your research.
