Make an appointment with Cyndi’s List (http://www.cyndislist.com/). All beginning genealogy publications include a link to Cyndi’s List because it is the ultimate guide for family history links. If you’ve never used Cyndi’s List, take the time to look around. If you’re familiar with the site, look again. Take the time to browse with detail. Don’t try to research your own family’s history, just move through the site and get a feel of all it has to offer. If you have a genealogy blog, share with your readers a new website you discovered through Cyndi’s List.
I love Cyndi's Lists. It's a great place to start when you are looking for a new research avenue. Cyndi does a great job of maintaining the site, but inevitably you will find many dead links. That's just the way the internet is. I suggest doing a Google search for the site's title to find where it moved or using the Wayback Machine to try to find its old self.
A new site that I found was Alien Spaceship Theory of Genealogy in the Outer Space category.
I suggest that if you have a blog that you submit your link to be included on Cyndi's list. I find that I get frequent traffic from her site.
It is definitely one of the best sites to visit. I've got to check out the Outer Space category! Apparently it has been too long since I visited Cyndi's List. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt has grown and grown and then she started blogging too. If she has ads it must be self sufficient by now. I actually didn't use it all that much in the beginning, so much to wade through. but later on I found myself on the right browsing days able to do so. Especially the family trees there.
ReplyDeleteI went back once again for some info on Norwegian immigration, cause they said she had the info, and was floored by all the great stuff to browse. Usually I am not letting myself get distracted by all the goodies like in a candy store. Now, I wish I had more time, but she makes it so easy for you to find what you need.
