Surname Saturday: SANDERS

My 2nd great grandmother was Susan "Susie" SANDERS. She married Willard Theodore BASCOM in May of 1891 in Switzerland county, Indiana.

Susan was the daughter of George W SANDERS, who served as a Switzerland County commissioner for number of years, and Sarah Jane DUNNING. George was born 24 Feb 1842 in Ohio. He married Sarah Jane on 30 Sep 1864 in Switzerland county, Indiana. He died 14 Mar 1926 and is buried in Bovard Cemetery in Cotton township, Switzerland county, Indiana.

Their children were:

Susan SANDERS born 14 Mar 1870. Married George W SANDERS. Died 16 Jan 1927 in Hamilton, Butler county, Ohio. Buried in Bovard Cemetery.
Edwin SANDERS born July 1865. Married Edda. Died 1915 and buried in New Liberty Cemetery in Cotton Township, Switzerland county.
Mary B SANDERS born 28 Nov 1867. Married Harry M STOW on 2 Mar 1893 in East Enterprise, Switzerland county, Indiana. Died 12 Apr 1962 and buried in New Cemetery in Rising Sun, Ohio county, Indiana.
Mariah S SANDERS born Dec 1873. Married Elmer E Ford in 1896 in Switzerland county. Died 10 Sep 1942 and buried in New Cemetery in Rising Sun, Ohio county, Indiana.
Walter Armstrong SANDERS born 15 Jun 1876. Married Kate Bell HEADY in 1900. Died 3 May 1949 and buried in New Cemetery in Rising Sun, Ohio county, Indiana.

George was the son of William B SANDERS and his second wife Susan. William was born 31 Dec 1800 in England. He died 26 Feb 1875 and is buried in Bovard Cemetery.

The other children of William and Susan were:

Joshua SANDERS born about 1837 in Ohio and died before 1875.
Edwin SANDERS born Jul 1845 in Ohio. Married Fanny C MOORE on 4 Feb 1872 in Switzerland county, Indiana. Died 1 Feb 1922 and buried in New Cemetery in Rising Sun.
Winifield S SANDERS born 2 Sep 1848 and died 25 Aug 1864.

William's other children include:

Richard SANDERS who died before 1875.
Violetta B SANDERS born 13 Aug 1831 in England to William and Ann WHITE. She married William ARCHER. She died 30 Apr 1912 in Elm, Putnam county, Missouri.
