March Goals Reviewed and Pushed to April

So I didn't do much of my genealogy goals this month. But I did make some money since I had to work almost every day of March. For someone who usually only works 3 or 4 days a week, working 2 weeks straight was a little much. Plus I was planning some research time that never happened.

But the good news is that I am now on Spring Break for the next week. I've already been to ACPL once and plan to get a few more trips in before work picks up again in May. I'm also heading down to Cincinnati to do some research in Hamilton, Ohio and since the weather isn't cooperating for a cemetery expedition to Switzerland County, Indiana, I think I'll go to Rabbit Hash, Kentucky. Then I can see the crazy place where 5 generations of my family lived. Plus I'll stop by grandma's and pick up some more slides and ask her some more questions about her life.

Here were my genealogy goals for March 2011:

  • Finish scanning the slides that I borrowed from my grandma. This will allow me to get more at the beginning of April when I visit her again. I have 2 more to do this weekend before I visit grandma and get more.
  • Work on adding metadata to my digital photos. This is something that I haven't really done yet and it needs done. I'm going to research a few metadata software choices and start working on this. I looked into some, but haven't really worked with them yet.
  • Work on husband's family lines in Alsace, France. (I found them in France, but I have to be in the right mood to deal with records in French. Two weeks of being sick in February didn't help.) Did not do. Work got in the way and I remembered that I needed to research his line in Butler County, Ohio so I could add it to my research trip for next week.
  • Work on my Norfolk, England ancestors. FamilySearch added more Norfolk images online and I need to search through them for my ancestors. You would think I would have worked on my own family lines, but I didn't.
So this month it is easy to make my new genealogy goals. Please see above. Hopefully April will give me some time to research before the busy month of May. I'll also be attending the Indiana Genealogical Society's Annual Conference on April 16 in Indianapolis.

What are your April goals?

  1. Hi Tina, Thank you for sharing your goals. My April goals will be my March goals as well. Onward! Have you looked into Lightroom for adding metadata? It makes the process very easy, but it is a bit expensive. I highly recommend it. Jennifer

  2. Just posted to Searchin' for Kinfolk about my continuing organizational effort. That will be April's and most of the rest of the year, probably. Plus scanning pictures from my mother's ancestor albums. Instead of putting information in metadata, I create a text file with the same name as the picture with the additional information. What digital-photo-viewing software displays metadata? Is confidence high that we will be able to view that metadata years from now? I'm not at all well education on this topic. I look forward to your future blogs.

  3. Right now I'm just hoping that I can post a blog entry every couple days. Nothing specific like you on my agenda. I too have other things keeping me from a full-time research plan, but in some ways it's related to genealogy too. My son turns 30 years old in May and I'm working on a storybook for him that covers the 1st 18 years of his life. It's something his descendants would love to see!

  4. Dear Tina,

Congratulation on your blog! I have nominated you for the "One Lovely Blog Award"! If you wish to follow up go to
